Meredith Vieira Named Special Correspondent on Brian Williams Newsmagazine

Michael N. Todaro/Getty ImagesMeredith Vieira Meredith Vieira has been named a special correspondent for the new Brian Williams-anchored newsmagazine Rock Center. The announcement came Tuesday from NBC News president Steve Capus and confirms widely reported news that Vieira would have a role on the new primetime program. When she stepped down as anchor of Today last May, Vieira and Capus noted that Vieira would continue to have a role at the news division. She'll also contribute to the network's coverage of next summer's Olympic Games in London and other NBC News programs including Today and Nightly News with Brian Williams. "From the day that Meredith joined us at NBC News, we knew she was family," Capus said in a statement. "Meredith's immeasurable talents reach beyond the newsroom to connect with the extraordinary people she interviews as well as the viewers at home. She is as genuine as you can get, a world-class journalist and a captivating storyteller." The announcement comes one day after NBC News executives revealed the name of the show - something that generated much debate in the Twitter-verse as well as inside NBC News. One name executives were kicking around was Studio 30, say sources. But there was concern that that title would generate confusion between Aaron Sorkin's now-defunct Saturday Night Live-esque drama Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Brian Williams Meredith Vieira
